FEDERICO ANDREOTTI
(Florence 1847 - 1930)
PROFILE OF A YOUNG WOMAN IN A HAT

Black chalk, signed F Andreotti bottom right. 95 x 65 mm.

Federico Andreotti received his artistic training at the Academy in Florence.  There he studied with Enrico Pollastrini, the President of the Academy, and Angiolo Tricca.  His academic studies prepared him well for his chosen subject matter: realistic genre and aristocratic scenes, often in dress from the eighteenth centuries. The late 19th century saw a resurgence of interest in this period of elegance, sometimes described as Rococo Revival, and many artists, including Toudouze & Moreau, in France, Marcus Stone, in England, and Madrazo, in Spain, also looked to satisfy the growing need for these works.
