VALERIA VECCHIA
(Naples 1913 - Acilia, Rome 1986)
NINFEA, 1973

Etching, signed and dated in the plate Valeria Vecchia 73, Titled, numbered in pencil bottom margin Ninfea IV/XV Valeria Vecchia. To the platemark 387 x 329 mm, the full sheet measuring 668 x 488 mm.

Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome under the guidance of the engraver Gustavo Rodella, Valeria Vecchia was the wife of the engraver and painter Lino Bianchi Barriviera who, unlike what happens in artistic couples in which the man often tends to overshadow his partner, at a certain point decided to participate only in exhibitions to which his wife was also invited. During her artistic career, Vecchia experimented with all the engraving techniques, initially mainly creating etchings and drypoints and later dedicating herself to aquatint, soft varnish and lithography. Recurring themes in her production are landscapes and views, still lifes, female figures, sacred and allegorical scenes.
