Colour woodblock print, chuban tate-e, depicting the ghost of the kabuki actor, Kohada Koheiji, his skeletal hands pulling down the mosquito net within which lies his former wife and lover who murdered him.
This is probably the first edition of the print which, for the replacement of the key block, can no longer be considered original. However, the visual effect is very close to that of the original published by Tsuruya Kiemon in the 1930s. So close that an impression of this same edition is kept at the British Museum catalogued as original. (Museum number 1921,0511,0.16).
Very good impression, fresh colour, full sheet, 252 x 187 mm,
