Guglielmo Sansoni, called Tato, was born in Bologna in 1896. He was one of the most eclectic artists of the futurist scene: painter, sculptor, ceramist, set designer, and futurist writer. Tato completed his studies at the Military Academy of Parma and learned the first rudiments of the ceramic art at the Minghetti factory in Bologna. During the war he published some drawings inspired by military life and made friends with Boccioni and Sironi, and later Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. Together with Leo Longanesi, Aldo Giovannini, Fanelli, Caviglioni and Federico Valli, he founded the 1st Futurist Group from Emilia. In 1922 he organized, at the Modernissimo Theater in Novara, an exhibition of futurist art. In 1924 he moved to Rome where he held a personal exhibition at the Casa d'Arte Bragaglia and in 1926 he participated in the Venice Biennale. In 1927 he took part in the Great Exhibition of Futurist Art in Bologna. In 1929 Tato, together with other futurists, published the Manifesto dell'Aeropittura in the Gazzetta del Popolo. In September 1930, together with Marinetti, he organized the first national photographic competition, proposing the Manifesto della fotografia futurista. In 1931 he was one of the organizers in Rome of the Prima Mostra di Aeropittura, and the same year he exhibited some works at the Galleria Pesaro in Milan and subscribed to the 1st Manifesto dell'Aeropittura. The following year he was present at the exhibition held in Paris at the Galerie de Renaissance Enrico Prampolini et les Aeropeintres Futuristes Italiens and participated in the First Futurist Exhibition in Rome. In 1934 Tato had a personal room at the Venice Biennale, he participated with other futurists at the II Quadriennale d'Arte in Rome.
