VINCENZO DE MITA
(San Severo di Foggia ca. 1751 - after 1805)
A HOLY QUEEN DISTRIBUTING ALMS TO THE POOR, 1776

Pen, black ink, washed in gray.
Inscribed (most likely signed and dated) Vincenzo de Mita 76.
The full sheet 450 x 326 mm.
On paper with indistinct watermark (quadruped in a circle that surmounts the letter P ?)
We do not know examples of De Mita's draughtsmanship, but it is very likely that this drawing, certainly connected to an altarpiece and strongly influenced by Solimena and De Mura, is an original work by Il Foggiano.

Born in San Severo di Foggia, Vincenzo de Mita was one of Francesco de Mura's numerous pupils. His activity has been fairly investigated in recent decades, see the page dedicated to him in  the Dizionario Biografico Treccani.
