Draughtsman, painter, lithographer, portraitist, miniaturist, caricaturist, illustrator, Masutti, rose to fame thanks to the support of the noble Oliva Del Turco family from Aviano. Thanks to this patron, Antonio Masutti, at a very young age, was able to attend the Venice Academy of Art between 1830 and 1836, and was granted a residency in Rome between 1848 and 1849. In 1849 he moved to Turin. During his stay in Rome he got involved with the publication of the satirical magazine 'Il Don Pirlone', for which he designed most illustrations. In Turin, Masutti experienced all the events of the Italian Risorgimento, becoming the official portraitist of the protagonists of Italian unification, primarily the prime minister, Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, the architect of all the House of Savoy's successes.
