ANTONIO SENAPE
ROME 1788 - NAPLES after 1842

Antonio Senape lived in Rome until 1815, then moved to Naples, becoming a prolific landscape draughtsman, devoted to satisfy the large demand of Vedute in the tradition of Grand Tour. His drawings were mainly views of Naples, Campania, Calabria and Sicily. Senape worked in pen and black chalk, often employing inks of different colours and intensity to suggest distance. His graphic style was rooted in the tradition of 18th century, without being influenced by the new course settled, in landscape views, by the School of Posillipo and by Pitloo and Giacinto Gigante.
