MAURO REGGIANI
Nonantola di Modena 1897 - Milan 1980

Reggiani was a prominent abstract painter associated with the development of abstract and geometric art in Italy. Initially trained in traditional painting techniques at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, Reggiani's style evolved significantly over the years. After serving in World War I, he was influenced by the Futurist movement and later by the abstract language of form and color. In the 1930s, he became a founding member of the Italian abstract art movement, participating in the group 7 pittori astratti (7 Abstract Painters). His work was characterized by a rigorous approach to geometric abstraction, employing a reduced palette and exploring the dynamic relationships between shapes and space. In 1965 he won first prize at the Venice Biennale and first prize at the Rome Quadrennial. Furthermore, a solo show was dedicated to him at the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara in '73 and in '77 by the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna in Turin. Reggiani continued to develop his artistic style throughout his career, contributing to the evolution of modern art in Italy until his death in 1980.
