MARINA BATTIGELLI
Cairo 1896 - Florence 1979

Painter, illustrator and writer (sometimes under the pseudonym Agnese Lulli), Marina Battigelli was born in Cairo to parents from Trieste and made her debut at a very young age at an exhibition of etchings in 1915 and then in”the Gospel told to a child by his mother“ (1921), which she wrote and illustrated. A debut that seems to mark her production: of the almost 90 titles she collaborated on, about thirty are dedicated to religious children's literature. In addition to a non-trivial pictorial activity (which among other things earned her a special commendation at the XXII Venice Biennale, as well as exhibiting in Tokyo, Leipzig, New York), she collaborated with a dozen publishers including UTET in 1940 for "Quo Vadis?" and magazines such as “Il giornalino della Domenica”, “La Lettura” and “Il Novellino”, as well as the then flourishing market of illustrated postcards.
