ENNIO MORLOTTI (Lecco 1910 - Milan 1992)  TESCHIO

Morlotti studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. In 1937 he went to Paris, where he studied the works of Courbet, Cézanne and Picasso. In 1939 he moved to Milan, where he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti. In 1940 Morlotti joined the Corrente movement, and after World War II he was one of the signatories in Milan of the Manifesto del Realismo (1946), which concentrated on contemporary social concerns. However, in Paris, where he went in 1947, he came into direct contact with such Art informel artists as Wols and Nicolas de Staël. This encounter was an important factor in directing him towards matter painting following the most advanced European trends. The dominant motif of his painting, particularly after 1960, was landscape, particularly that of Lombardy.
