CARLO MATTIOLI (Modena 1911 - Parma 1994) PORTRAIT OF ORESTE MACRÌ
Bronze, early sixties, 18,5 by 11,5 by 14,5 cm. On a marble base.
Oreste Macrì (1913-1998) was a literary critic and a philologist. He studied and taught Spanish language and literature. Macrì was a good friend of Carlo Mattioli. PROVENANCE: Igino Cerastico (1928-1979).

After studying at the Istituto d'Arte in Parma, Carlo Mattioli began his artistic career as an illustrator. He then moved to painting, his interests being the nudes, the still-lives, the landscapes, the self-portraits and the portraits of the friends. Mattioli's works stand in a border zone between the figurative and the abstract painting and the artist has been compared to Morandi and Burri.
