GIOVITA GARAVAGLIA (Pavia 1790 - Florence 1875) JACOB AND RACHEL
Engraving, 1830, after the painting (1795-1805) by Andrea Appiani in the Basilica di San Martino, Alzano Maggior, Bergamo. A very good impression of this large print, with the dedication to Caroline Augusta of Bavaria (Empress of Austria from 1816-1835). With margins, minor defects at the margins, generally in very good condition. To the plate-mark 815 x 535 mm. The full sheet measuring 1065 x 765 mm.

Garavaglia learned the art of printmaking under the engraver Faustino Anderloni, and since 1808 under Giuseppe Longhi, in Milan. In 1813 he won an academic prize for his Herodias after Bernardino Luini. In 1817 he won another prize for his Holy Family in a Landscape after Raphael. In 1833 Garavaglia became the successor of Raphael Morghens as professor of engraving at the Academy in Florence.
