CARLO FORNARA (Prestinone 1878 - 1968) SKETCH OF TREES IN BUTTOGNO

Fornara was born to a family of workers, in the Valle d’Ossola, in the northern Italy. He revealed an early attitude to drawing and between 1884 and 1889 he attended the School of Art of Santa Maria Maggiore (Novara) where he had as master Enrico Cavalli. Cavalli, who studied in Lyon, provided Fornara with fundamental teachings on the more advanced trends of French art. In 1891 Fornara took part in the Triennale di Brera, where he get in touch with Segantini and became a follower of Segantini’s researches, while, with several trips to France in the first half of the 1990s, he deepened his knowledge of the French pictorial trends of the time.
